The client had worked as a museum technician and spent years handling objects they were not permitted to display. The brief was to draw a find as it appears in a catalogue plate — isolated, scaled, stripped of the ground it came out of. Fossil references were combined rather than copied, so the object reads as plausible without being identifiable. Engraved linework kept the clinical distance; anything more atmospheric would have turned an artefact back into a story.
