The client wanted flowers but disliked how bright most floral work is, so the reference set was restricted to photographs taken after dark with a flash. Under that light, petals go almost white at the edge while the centre of the arrangement disappears completely. The design keeps that falloff rather than lighting the whole bouquet evenly, which meant accepting that parts of it would never be legible. Placed on the upper thigh where the black can sit heavy without crowding anything around it.
