Widow Spider
A black widow study with fine leg articulation and a restrained web motif.
Design Narrative
A widow had built a web across the client's back door one summer, and they chose to use the front door for two months rather than clear it. The interest was in the arrangement of the legs — seven points of contact holding a body that weighs almost nothing. The web was cut back to a few strands, since drawing it fully made the spider look trapped instead of resident. Kept small at the ankle so it stays a detail someone notices rather than a statement they meet.
